slipknot is a band of alternative metal/nu metal. it was formed in september 1995, whit the name of "The Pale Ones", consisting of the current percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan (who was the drummer in that time), the deceased Paul Gray (bassist), Anders Colsefni (vocalist), and Donnie Steele (guitarist). They met and formed in Des Moines, Iowa, where they played at local night club. not long after their inception, Paul Gray invited Joey Jordison to a rehearsal. Jordison subsequently joined the band as their main drummer, moving Crahan to custom percussion. in late 1995, Jordison suggested changing the band name to Slipknot after their song of the same name. in february 1996, guitarist Donnie Steele decided to leave the band. Craig Jones was recruited as Steele's replacement on guitar. subsequently, Jones became the band's sampler and Mick Thompson was brought in as the replacement guitarist. The band released their Demo Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. on Halloween 1996. after that, Corey Taylor was recruited from bellow Des moines band, Stone Sour; in september 1997, Colsefni announced on stage that he was leaving the band. soon after, Dj Sid Wilson was recruited as the band's ninth member.

IOWA (2001-2003)
The band released their second album "Iowa" in august 28, 2001. slipknot went in hiatus whit this album, and one of the songs of this, My Plague, appeared on the soundtrack for the film Resident Evil.

VOL. 3: (THE SUBLIMINAL VERSES) (2003-2007)
was released on may 24, 2004. whit this album, they recorded their first live album, 9.0: Live.
in 2005, several members of slipknot were involved in Roadrunner united: the all star session, a collaboration album of artist signed to roadrunner records. 2006 saw slipknot win their first (and to date only) Grammy award, picking up the best metal performance whit the single "Before I Forget".

ALL HOPE IS GONE (2008-2010)
it was released on august 20, 2008. in 2009 marked the 10-year anniversary of slipknot debut album; to commemorate the event, the band released a special edition version of slipknot on september 9, 2009.
on may 24, 2010, the bassist paul gray was found dead in a hotel room on Urbandale, Iowa.

KNOTFEST
Slipknot hosted their first annual music festival, called knotfest, which was held on August 17, 2012. other bands that played at the festival were Deftones, Lamb Of God, Serj Tankian and more. among the activities the festival offered as part of its "dark carnival experience" were circus big-top tents, pillars of fire, amusement park rides, burlesque performers, firebreathers, stilt walkers, drum circles made of junkyard cards and graffiti walls. the show also debuted a slipknot museum.

In general slipknot it's a great band whit a great trayectory, some people really hate the band (i don't know why) but in personal i really love this band, because their style, their lyrical themes, all the history they have... i'm not saying "this is the best band of the world" i know that a lot of bands are better than slipknot, but for me, this is an amazing band. STAY SIC MAGGOTS.
